Sustainable Agriculture Production Project (SAPP)

The sustainable Agriculture Production Programme (SAPP) is being implemented within Government of Malawi Sector Wide Approach (ASWAp) over a nine-year period. The Programme is being implemented in six districts of Blantyre, Chiradzulu, Balaka, Lilongwe, Nkhotakota and Chitipa. SAPP is being financed by International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) with the overall goal to contribute to poverty reduction and improved food security among rural population. Specifically, the programme intends to achieve a viable and sustainable smallholder agricultural sector employing Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs).

The Programme has three components namely: Adaptive Research and Seed Certification and Management, Farmers Adoption of Sustainable Good Agriculture Practices, Programme Management and Knowledge Management. The Department of Agriculture Extension Services role is to promote adoption of good agricultural practices under component two of the programme.
