Agriculture Sector Wide Approach Support Project II (ASWAp SP II)

ASWAp SP II is a Multi Donor Trust Fund being implemented by the Malawi Government under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Ministry of Lands Housing and Urban Development, Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Trade and Tourism. This is a follow up project after the ASWAp phased out in 2017. The objective of ASWAP SP II is to improve the productivity and market access of selected commodities for small-holder farmers in targeted districts of Malawi. Specifically, the project intends to increase: volume of production of selected agricultural commodities; number of agricultural marketing centers connected by rehabilitated roads; and farmers reached with agricultural assets or services of which 50% should be female.

The project is expected to benefit 300,000 households and is being implemented in 12 districts of Chitipa, Mzimba, Kasungu, Ntchisi, Mchinji, Lilongwe, Dedza, Ntcheu, Zomba, Phalombe, Mulanje and Thyolo.ASWAp SP II has four components namely: Sustainable Agricultural Productivity and Diversification; Improvement of Rural Road Infrastructure for Market Access, Institutional Capacity Development for NAIP and Project Coordination and Management. The Department of Agriculture Extension Services (DAES) is one of the implementing partners of component 1 of the project along with other technical department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
